LECCIONES APRENDIDAS (II): VISTIÉNDONOS. LESSONS LEARNED (II): GETTING DRESSED.

No hay muchas actividades en las que ir correctamente equipado sea tan decisivo. Es necesario conocer nuestro equipo a la perfección, no olvidar ninguno de sus componentes y seguir un método a la hora de su puesta y comprobación.
A continuación tenéis un recordatorio de acciones a efectuar, basadas en mi experiencia:  

Hacer el espejo con el compañero fuera y dentro del agua. Conocer su equipo es importante en caso de problemas.

Ordenador de buceo en el brazo derecho, control de flotabilidad con la mano izquierda.

Controlar el mando predive de la segunda etapa, si se tiene.

Ponerse las aletas primero y el jacket después, o dentro del agua. Si hay corriente, usar un cabo de amarre.

Llevar la máscara siempre al cuello, nunca en el pelo, para no perderla.

Evitar el empañamiento de las gafas, escupiendo en el cristal.

Cuando no esté puesta, llevar la máscara en el interior de una aleta. Una vez me la olvidé en el centro de buceo, cuando ya era tarde para volver a buscarla, menos mal que alguien llevaba una de repuesto.

Llevar el octopus extendido (no anudar), o sujetarlo al jacket con un mosquetón.

Si se lleva capucha, hacerle unos pequeños agujeros a la altura de los oídos para que no se nos meta en los oídos por efecto de la presión.

En mi curso todos llevábamos el mismo jacket, el mismo traje, las mismas aletas, así que era difícil averiguar quién era el compañero de inmersión. Si podemos llevar algún elemento diferenciador, preferiblemente de colores vivos, mejor que mejor.

Beber agua y llevar la gorra puesta antes y después de la inmersión.

Manómetro por debajo de la axila y el velcro del abdomen, para localizarlo y consultar la presión fácilmente.

Llevar la linterna en el bolsillo del jacket antes de la inmersión.

En la parada de seguridad, guardar la linterna en el bolsillo del jacket para que no se enganche ni se pierda.

Guardar la linterna aparte después de la inmersión, para evitar su “desaparición” mientras el jacket se está secando en el centro de buceo.

Al finalizar la inmersión, quitarse en este orden: Plomos, jacket y aletas.

There are few activities where being properly dressed is so important. It is needed to know perfectly our stuff, not forgetting any of its components, and following a method when putting it on and checking it afterwards.
Next you'll find a few tips on what to do, according to my experience:

The buddy is very important: Check each other on the boat and in the sea. Getting to know his equipment is important in case of trouble.

Carry the diving computer on the right wrist, in order to control the buoyancy with the left hand.

Check the regulator’s predive switch, if available.

Put on fins first, and then the BCD. We can choose to put on the BCD in the water. If there is tide, use a rope to stay close to the boat.

The mask shall be worn around the neck, never over the hair.

Spit on the glass of the mask so it doesn’t get misted up.

Carry the mask inside one of the fins. Once I forgot it in the diving center, and only realized of it when it was too late to come back. Luckily somebody had a spare mask.   

Leave the octopus extended (do not tie in a knot), or tight to the BCD with a hose retainer.

When wearing a hood, do some holes in front of the ears to avoid the hood coming into them by effect of the pressure.

In my course all of us wore the same equipment, making it difficult to identify our buddy. Wear something different, preferably in bright colours.

Drink some water and wear a cap before and after the dive.

Drive the pressure gauge under the armpit, between the cummerbunds and the belly so it remains in front of us and we can have a look at it easily.

The light is useless before the dive. Put it inside one pocket of the BCD.

At the safety stop, put the light again inside its pocket.

When we are back in the diving center, take the light to avoid it getting “lost” while the BCD is drying up.

At the end of the dive, take off in this order: Weights, BCD, fins.
